Book review:
The fall of France to the German victors created a background for Irene Nemirovsky's observations of the defeated French people in WW2. A very unflattering series (to the French) of "escape" and "occupation" stories complete this novel.
Irene Nemirovsky's characterisation is excellent, along with her descriptions of the French country side in various seasons.This makes interesting reading alongside of the novel Sarah's Key by Tatiana de Rosnay.
