Lots of fun and interesting shaped scarfs were created at Engadine Library during the recent  Holiday Knitting workshop.  16 eager novice knitters were in capable hands thanks to the generosity of library staff and the Engadine Knitting Group who supported this activity by being volunteer trainers.

 Some pictures of the wonderful creations are supplied.

Wrap with Love began in 1992 with an idea to encourage knitters & crocheters to create squares and wraps that can be sent to some of the millions of people in the world affected by cold weather.

Shire libraries would like to invite those interested in joining this annual event for 2011, to meet with fellow knitters at either Sutherland Library or Cronulla Library On Friday, August 5th from 8am to 12pm.

For those not able to join us on the day, your skills are still needed! Completed squares or wraps can be dropped off until the end of August, 2011 at Sutherland Library and Cronulla Library.

Please bring along your own yarn and needles.

Hot chocolate, tea, coffee and baked goods will be provided for knitters on the day.

  To help keep the cold weather at bay Engadine Library hosted a Junior Knitting Workshop. 15 eager children were taught the basic knit stitch  by 13 generous volunteers from the Engadine Knitting Group, local expert knitters and library staff. A great time was had by all with lots of chatter and clicking of needles.  Many thanks to the volunteers who are keeping this wonderful craft alive with the younger generation.

The generation gap was temporarily closed at Engadine library when old met with very young to pass on the ancient art of knitting. Our school holiday activity 'Knitting for Beginners' brought together ladies from the Engadine Library Knitting Group to oversee and help show our younger patrons how to knit. Clicking needles, patience, enthusiasm and loads of concentration resulted in an enjoyable and rewardable time. Perhaps this wonderful skill will contine to thrive.

For any knitters or would-be knitters, Engadine, Cronulla and Sylvania Libraries host monthly informal knitting groups. All welcome!

The Wrap With Love 2010 Knit In was held early this year.

Shire knitters and groups had been busy knitting squares and making them into wraps to be sent to people around the world who are affected by the cold.

Thanks to those knitters who joined us at their library and to those who brought in completed squares and wraps. A special thank you to Jannali/Como Rotary Club who brought in the very colourful wraps shown here in the photos.

If you love to knit or crochet or you would like to learn Cronulla, Engadine and Sylvania Libraries hold regular knitting groups. Knitters or would be knitters of all levels of abiltiy and ages are invited to meet in a relaxed, welcoming and social setting.

Do you love to knit or have you ever wanted to learn?
Do you want to help to keep this wonderful skill alive and have a friendly chat over a cuppa.

Then head to Sylvania Library. Knitters and would-be-knitters are welcome to come and spend some time working on their projects in a relaxing, social setting.

"Researchers at Harvard Medical School Mind and Body Institute have found that the average person's heart rate drops 11 beats per minute while knitting and that you get a sense of calm similar to that associated with meditation".
