Cheryl Kirby Artworks at Sutherland Library

The guest artist at Sutherland Library during July and August is Cheryl Kirby.
Cheryl is a longtime resident of Sutherland Shire. After leaving school at 15 Cheryl's first job was as an airbrush artist at the Empire Art Company in Darlinghurst. Part of her job was to attend East Sydney Technical College Art School, something that she really loved.

Cheryl's later career saw her move into commercial advertising in magazines and newspapers.  She took a break from paid work to raise a family but continued to study art part time at the School of Fashion and Art at Gymea Technical College. Cheryl also ran a small business designing and printing from home. Cheryl joined Friends of Hazelhurst in 2014.

Come to Sutherland Library and see a selection of acrylics, graphite and water colour pencil works by this very talented local artist.

Robyn Gosbell - Local artist at Sutherland Library

















Robyn Gosbell has been a highly acclaimed artist for many years and is well known in the Sutherland Shire. She is very observant artist who loves nature and expresses herself  by sensitively using light and shade in her scenic paintings in oil, pastel and acrylic.

Robyn came to the attention of well known Sydney artist, Robert Greive when she was just 12 and became his pupil.  She then completed her Art Certificate course achieving first place. Robyn has had many successful local and regional art exhibitions and has won many prizes and acclamation in Australia and overseas.

Many of her works hang in collections worldwide. Robyn enjoys travelling around Australia and overseas in search of new places to discover and new ways of expressing herself.  She also writes for art journals, teaches art and judges art shows.

This must see sample of Robyn's varied styles of art including landscapes and still lifes are on display at Sutherland Library during November and December.

Kenneth B Harrison Drawings at Sutherland Library

Sutherland Shire artist, Kenneth B Harrison has an exhibition of some of his artworks at Sutherland Library, during the month of February.

Works on display include line drawings of Aboriginal activist Patrick Dodson, cricket legend Glenn McGrath and other famous people. There are also two watercolour paintings, one of Cathy Freeman and a bright painting called Bird in Paradise.

Kenneth's works are on display in the rear lounge area of Sutherland Library until the end of February.

Catherine Murphy Paintings at Sutherland Library

Catherine Murphy is a Member of the Friends of Hazelhurst, Continuum Art Society and Millhouse Art Society. She attended Life Drawing and Water Colour classes at Hazelhurst Regional Gallery, Gymea and has studied oils under the tuition of Archibald, Wynne and Blake finalist Alexander McKenzie.

Catherine is a resident of the Sutherland Shire and has regular excursions to Berrara on the South Coast of NSW. She has successfully exhibited at the Millhouse Art Society in Milton, Hazelhurst Regional Gallery, Gymea and annual art shows in the Shoalhaven. Catherine won awards at the Millhouse Exhibition in Ulladulla in 2008, 2009 and 2010. Catherine held a successful first exhibition in Darlinghurst in 2008.

Catherine has written and illustrated books and individualises cards and invitations. Catherine's work is influenced by Asian Art and the Impressionists and includes whimsical children's paintings and cartoons. Her work is held in a number of private collections and is featured in Zushi Japanese Restaurants in Darlinghurst and Surry Hills.

Catherine works part time as an Occupational Therapist but her current career goal is to develop as a successful artist and illustrator.

Come and see some of Catherine's eye catching paintings in the Southern Lounge area at Sutherland Shire Library. The paintings will be on display throughout November and December 2011.

Artwork by Jennifer Gowen on display at Sutherland Library


 Sutherland Library is hosting a display of artworks by Jennifer Gowen.

The four paintings on display are inspired by a fascinating group of ancient wind-worn pillars and boulders of pink granite called Murphy's Haystack.  They stand in a farmers field on the Eyre Peninsular in South Australia.  Known as 'inselbergs' these impressive rock formations stand as silent sentinels on the windswept peninsular. This formation are estimated to be more than 1,500 million years old.

See the paintings in the lounge area of the library during July and August.


Aurelia D. Roberts - Original Artworks on Display



A vibrant display of artworks by local artist Aurelia D. Roberts will be featured in the Southern Lounge at Sutherland Library from January to March 2011. Works include portraits and landscapes in oil and acrylic.

Aurelia is a member of Friends of Hazelhurst and the Southern Cross Art Society. She began painting after retiring from full-time teaching. Head into the Library to view her colourful and interesting artwork.

Is Sutherland Shire home to the next Great Australian Artist?

Cronulla Library will be holding a great exhibition of artworks completed by Shire children in Years K-2. The works depict an older person who is special
to them. Plenty of colour, expressions of love with no airbrushing required.
