Too busy to read a book in December – try a short read

If reading a book is the last thing on your mind in between all that planning for festivities, shopping or simply the end of year wind down, what do you read while you take a break?  Why not try a short read like a magazine, news article or get a quick snapshot of what is happening in the world.

Sutherland Shire Libraries can give you access to a wide range of short reads.


Zinio Digital Magazines



If you like magazines why not try Sutherland Libraries digital magazine sunscription. Zinio is a quick and easy way to get copies of around 117 current popular magazines. Once the magazines have been downloaded to your device you will have unlimited access to them 24 hours a day without using an Internet connection. The magazines are yours to keep or replace with the current issue each month. Like freegal Sutherland Library’s music download subscription - there are no due dates or fines on these resources. The files are yours to keep.

You can use Zinio from home on a PC, laptop or mobile device, or on the go using a smart phone or tablet. There are apps that work on just about any device.

Proquest NewsStand


If you like keeping up with the latest news try Proquest Newsstand which gives you access to:
Latest local, regional and national news.
Content from Fairfax Australia and Fairfax New Zealand, News Limited, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation and APP newswires.

Publications include Sydney Morning Herald, The Australian, The Daily Telegraph plus major daily publications from other states and New Zealand. In addition, there are transcripts from many ABC radio and TV news and current affairs programs along with content from many local newspapers. The newspapers are usually indexed and ready on the day of publication.

Newsstand also includes full text of articles from the St. George and Sutherland Shire Leader from September 2011 onwards, a great source of information on local issues.

Australia / New Zealand Reference Center

The magazines are not digital copies so only have text but this subscription indexes many popular Australian magazines.
