I use the library mainly to search out books I want to read. New releases, books for book clubs, etc.

As to what I would like to see: book jackets, blurbs (so the above is well notes), reviews, links to book/author websites, etc. Also the dates of publication, before looking at them individually.

Regarding book summaries in the catalogue...
As a general rule, most libraries acquire their catalogue records externally (we only create records for a small percentage of our collection). Many libraries participate in a central pool of records and share them with each other. Thankfully, many more catalogue records are now being created that include summaries and notes, which enhance the findability and usefulness of the library catalogue. You should see more of these records over the coming years.

In addition, there are many places online where you can find this sort of information. We have a number of links on our Reader's Guides page, for instance, LibraryThing.

Thanks for your comments everyone. I knew the catalogue would be the most popular reason but I'm pleased that someone uses our collection of online databases. If you haven't tried them yet click on the Find Articles tab on the home page and try it out.

You're right about the WiFi hotspot too. We blogged about it when it went live but there's nothing permanent on the site. I will add something soon.

I use the library website almost daily for all of the above. It is a terrific site and very user friendly. As a reader of fiction I particularly appreciate a summary (even a sentence)of the contents of a book.

I visit your website occasionanly to lookup opening hours for other libraries, as well as access to the wide range of online databases avaliable for library members.

I also use the online catalogue for searching, renewing and manage my account but access this by typing the address into the address bar instead of going via the main library site, as I find this quicker and easier.

I find your website extremely easy to use. It's great for checking new acquisitions as well as old, for renewing loans and reserving books etc. I find it very convenient.
